Vernon Sanders “Vern” Law (1930-), Αμερικανός πρώην baseball pitcher, που έπαιξε 16 σεζόν στην Major League Baseball (MLB) για τους “Πειρατές του Πίτσμπουργκ” (1950-1951 και 1954-1967) – είχε ήδη υπογράψει ως ερασιτέχνης από το 1948.
Στην ηλικία των 12 έγινε διάκονος της “Εκκλησία των Μορμόνων”, Δάσκαλος δύο χρόνια αργότερα και Ιερέας στα 17 του – έτσι, κατά τη διάρκεια της σταδιοδρομίας του στο baseball, είχε το παρατσούκλι «Διάκονος».
Το 1960, ήταν πρώτος στο Πρωτάθλημα σε πλήρη παιχνίδια, μπήκε στην ομάδα All-stars και κέρδισε το βραβείο Cy Young Award. Η καριέρα του εκτροχιάστηκε από έναν τραυματισμό στον αστράγαλο, που υπέστη στο ταξίδι με το λεωφορείο το οποίο η ομάδα του γιόρταζε το Πρωτάθλημα. Αν και ταλαιπωρήθηκε για μερικά χρόνια, κατάφερε να κερδίσει το Βραβείο του “Επανακάμπτοντα Παίκτη της Χρονιάς” το 1965 και το Βραβείο (Κοινωνικής Προσφοράς) “Lou Gehrig Memorial Award“.
Από το 1967 ο Law έγινε προπονητής baseball σε Αμερική και Ιαπωνία, πριν αποσυρθεί οριστικά το 1984.
Έχει πιστωθεί με το γνωστό ρητό “Ο νικητής ποτέ δεν παραιτείται και όποιος παραιτείται ποτέ δεν κερδίζει”.

Vernon Sanders “Vern” Law (1930-), American former baseball pitcher who played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the “Pittsburgh Pirates” (1950-51 and 1954-67); he had signed for the Pirates as an amateur free agent in 1948.
Law was made an LDS (Mormons Church) deacon at the age of 12, a teacher two years later and a priest at 17; during his playing career, Law was tagged with the nickname “Deacon”.
In 1960, he led the National League in complete games, made the All-star team, and won the Cy Young Award that season. His career was derailed by an injury to his ankle sustained on the bus trip on which the team was celebrating clinching the 1960 pennant. He returnes and did manage to win the NL Comeback Player of the Year award in 1965 and the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award for contributions in both the community and philanthropy.
Law was a pitching coach for baseball teams in USA and Japan, before his retirement in 1984.
He has been credited also with the saying “A winner never quits and a quitter never wins”.
