Greece in EU’s top three for excellent bathing waters

The quality of Greece’s bathing waters remains excellent, according to the annual report of the European Environment Agency. More specifically, this year’s Bathing Water Quality in Europe report, published annually by the European Environment Agency, showed that 95.8% of Greek waters are in prime condition.
The report is published annually by the European Environment Agency, and is based on 21,551 samples from all EU countries, Albania and Switzerland.
Greece was 3rd in the relevant list behind Austria (for its lakes) and Malta; however, both have far less sampling points than Greece.
According to the report by the European Environment Agency for 21,859 bathing sites in EU, 95.8% of Greece’s waters are of excellent quality for swimming, with landlocked Austria scoring 97.7% thanks to its pristine lakes (including Lake Achensee, dubbed ‘Tirol’s ocean’ by locals) and the Mediterranean island nation of Malta scoring 96.6%.
Croatia came in fourth place, followed by Cyprus, Denmark and Germany – all with at least 9/10 sites received the top ranking. Holiday hotspots Italy and Spain just scored above the continental average, with 87.9 and 87.4 % of sites. Ever-popular France did less well – just 3/4 of sites were rated as excellent. The lowest ratings went to Poland (44.5%), Slovakia (50%) and Hungary (60.2%). Notably that the quality of coastal sites is generally better than that of inland sites; in 2021, 88.0%, of EU coastal bathing sites were classified as being of excellent quality compared to 78.2% of inland sites!!

Υψηλή παραμένει η ποιότητα των υδάτων κολύμβησης στην Ευρώπη, όπως διαπιστώνει η ετήσια έκθεση του Ευρωπαϊκού Οργανισμού Περιβάλλοντος, σύμφωνα με την οποία η Ελλάδα να βρίσκεται στην 3η θέση, με το 95,8% των νερών της να χαρακτηρίζονται άριστα.
Σύμφωνα με την έκθεση, το 84,8 των περιοχών κολύμβησης στην Ε.Ε. κατατάσσονται πλέον στις “εξαιρετικές”, με την ποιότητα των υδάτων κολύμβησης να έχει βελτιωθεί σημαντικά τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες. Η ετήσια έκθεση παρακολούθησε 21.859 περιοχές κολύμβησης στην Ε.Ε., την Αλβανία και την Ελβετία το 2021 και αποκάλυψε ότι σε 4 χώρες, το 95% ή περισσότερο, των υδάτων κολύμβησης ήταν εξαιρετικής ποιότητας.
Η Αυστρία, παρά το γεγονός ότι δεν διαθέτει θάλασσα, αλλά φημίζεται για τις όμορφες λίμνες της βρίσκεται στην κορυφή της κατάταξης, με το 97,7 % των νερών της να χαρακτηρίζονται άριστα. Στη 2η θέση ακολουθεί η Μάλτα με το 96,6% των νερών της να χαρακτηρίζονται ως “άριστα” και στην 3η θέση η Ελλάδα. Ακολουθούν δύο ακόμη μεσογειακές χώρες: η Κροατία και η Κύπρος, με το 95,7% και το 93,3% των υδάτων τους, αντίστοιχα, να χαρακτηρίζονται ως άριστα.
Την πρώτη δεκάδα συμπληρώνουν η Δανία, η Γερμανία, η Λιθουανία, η Βουλγαρία και η Πορτογαλία – εκτός δεκάδας βρίσκονται η Ιταλία και η Ισπανία και στην τελευταία θέση βρίσκεται η Πολωνία.
