Walter Bagehot (1826 – 1877), Βρεττανός επιχειρηματίας, δοκιμιογράφος, “Κοινωνικός Δαρβινιστής” και δημοσιογράφος, έγραψε για τη λογοτεχνία, την Κυβερνητική και τις οικονομικές σχέσεις. Σπούδασε Μαθηματικά και πήρε Master’s στην Ηθική Φιλοσοφία. Ως αρχισυντάκτης στο “The Economist”, το επέκτεινε σε θέματα για τις ΗΠΑ και για την πολιτική, με αύξηση της επιρροής του. Προς τιμή του, το εβδομαδιαίο σχόλιο του “The Economist” στις τρέχουσες εξελίξεις στη Βρετανία, τιτλοφορείται “Bagehot”, όπως και ο μικρο-πλανήτης “2901 Bagehot” που ανακαλύφθηκε (το 1973) από τον Luboš Kohoutek.

Walter Bagehot (1826 – 1877), British businessman, essayist, Social Darwinist and journalist who wrote about literature, government, and economic affairs. He studied mathematics at University College London and earned a master’s degree in intellectual and moral philosophy. Serving as editor-in-chief of The Economist, Bagehot expanded The Economist’s reporting on the United States and on politics and increased its influence. In honour of his contributions, The Economist’s weekly commentary on current affairs in the UK is entitled “Bagehot”.
